Treasurer Report: Gina Penaflor has recorded a total of $20,101.00 in our club account. She has provided a detailed summary of our clubs income and spending.
Membership: We have reached our highest total of members ever at 163.
Upcoming Events:
Mini Camp (January 18th): On Monday, January 18th, the rink is holding a one-day camp from 8:45 to 11:45 a.m. The camp will consist of two separate groups based on level of skating and work on spins, jumps, and skating skills. An hour of freestyle will be included free of charge from 10:45 to 11:45.
Test (January 23rd): The next figure skating test date is on Saturday, January 23rd.
Valentines Ice Cream Social (February 12th): We are planning to host another ice cream social the Friday before Valentine’s Day on February 12th. It will occur after the last hour of freestyle that day and be running for 1 ½ hours in the synthetic room. Apart from ice cream, the club also plans on bringing food and drinks for both parents and kids.
Disney Skate (February 20th): The Disney skate will be held on February 20th. The first 40 minutes will consist of an exhibition of Disney princess inspired programs. There are 15 skaters doing it. After, the Disney public skate will happen. The club plans on having cupcakes and popcorn for those participating as well as a backdrop for people to take photos. Although photographs were said to be included in the price, the rink will pay our club a small portion of money for every photo taken.
The club may be able to raise additional funds by selling masks (made by Gina Penaflor) and/or flowers during the event.
Exhibition Critique (March 20th and April) : For a fee of $120, skaters will have the chance to perform their programs in front of judges, Greg Cannon and Deb, to receive feedback. Each critique will be around 5 to 10 minutes long. Skaters will first show their program on March 20th to them and then again in April to see if they have improved.
Event Ideas/ Fundraisers:
Big Buddy- Little Buddy: For $25.00 a year, a seasoned skater can adopt a little skater. Every 2nd Saturday of the month, they would do an activity together on or off ice. While this fee covers the adoption and t-shirt, activities would still have to be paid for. This idea helps inspire the younger skaters and builds a relationship between the two.
Dress Sale: The idea was proposed to have a dress sale at certain events. We would be able to advertise this at Wednesday and Saturday during LTS. While the people selling the dresses would receive most of the funds, 25% of it would go to the club.
Luncheon: Jean has suggested the idea of a luncheon for skating club members.
Dip Jar: Desmond has suggested the idea of using a “dip jar” to have people at the rink donate to the club. The dip jar can be set to an amount (ex. $3.00). When people insert their card, it will donate that amount to the club. This idea has potential of increasing the chances of people at the rink to donate to our club.
Communication Improvements: Nicole Freeley has voiced concern over the club’s communication with its members and would like to see an increase in relaying future events and deadlines.
Updates to Website: One of the many suggestions made to improve communications was the increase of updates to our website. As secretary, I will try updating the website more frequently about upcoming events and deadlines.
Methods to Increase Volunteer Participation:
(!) Food/Hospitality Fee: Instead of having Jean pay out of pocket for food, we would like to introduce a small food/hospitality fee ($5.00) to test sign ups.
(!) Sub- Committees: Nicole Freeley has also suggested the idea of creating sub-committees with volunteer members to help with decorating and event planning. This would help lighten the load of the club and get more member participation and feedback!
Next Meeting: The next meeting will be held on February 26th at 6 p.m. It will be a dinner meeting at Anthony’s Pizza Place. Food will be covered by officers will have to pay for their own drinks.
Meeting Ended: 12: 05 p.m.
Respectfully Submitted,
Emily McIntyre, Secretary
